8 Easy Ways to Detox

1. PRIORITIZE AND OPTIMIZE SLEEP

Prioritizing and optimizing sleep is crucial for brain detoxification. During sleep our brains literally clean house! Studies have shown that during sleep the extracellular fluid in the brain is allowed to flow more easily due to the increase in space between our brain cells. This process allows toxic substances to be cleared from our brains while we sleep.

2. HYDRATE WITH CLEAN WATER

Staying properly hydrated is important in helping the body flush out toxins. Try to drink ½ of your body weight in ounces per day (not to exceed 100 ounces). For example, a 150-pound person should shoot for about 75 ounces of water a day. To keep things interesting, add fruit, cucumber slices or fresh herbs to your water to give it some flavor.

3. EASE UP ON ALCOHOL

Alcohol is processed by the liver, which is a major detoxification organ. By cutting back on alcohol consumption, the liver can get busy filtering and neutralizing toxins from the blood without having the extra job of processing alcohol.

4. CUT DOWN ON PROCESSED CARBOHYDRATES

Processed carbohydrates can lead to blood sugar imbalances. Blood sugar imbalance depletes the B vitamins, which are crucial to the detoxification process. Chronically high blood sugar can create a buildup of free radicals and rob the body of the nutrients necessary to detoxify properly.

5. INCREASE LEAFY GREENS & CRUCIFEROUS VEGETABLES

Leafy greens and cruciferous vegetables are full of vitamins and minerals that aid in the body’s detoxification process. Cruciferous vegetables contain glutathione, an important antioxidant which plays a key role in liver detoxification.

6.INCLUDE PLENTY OF HIGH-QUALITY PROTEIN

Protein is made up of amino acids. Certain amino acids are essential to the proper functioning of the liver detoxification process.

7. SWEAT OUT THE TOXINS WITH EXERCISE

The sweat glands of the skin are a one of the body’s means of detoxification. Working up a sweat while exercising is a great way to remove some of the toxins and impurities that have built up in your body.
