At Healthcare Complete in Newburyport, we practice a unique combination of Craniosacral therapy (based on Upledger’s teachings) and Craniopathy (based on Sacro-Occipital Technique-SOT). Since 80% of the central nervous system is located in the brain, correcting cranial imbalances is paramount to a total health care approach. The Cranial Work we practice is a very specific and safe system for restoring normal cranial function and neurological balance.

The skull itself is intended to be a pumping mechanism for the cerebral spinal fluid (CSF), which provides nutrients and removes metabolic waste to and from all areas of the brain. Sometimes this pumping action gets bogged down or “stuck” as the wrapper around the spinal cord and brain (dura/meninges) gets twisted or torqued.
With craniosacral care, we basically unwind the spine and its wrapper to promote CSF flow and restore subtle cranial motion thereby normalizing neurological function. Then we will begin Craniopathy techniques as the skull and spine are ready to receive this type of treatment.

Craniopathy is the art and science of restoring normal function to the cranial/dural-meningeal respiratory mechanism and the movement of cerebrospinal fluid. Craniopathy is a much more in depth study of the cranium with a strong focus on all the individual bones of the skull, how they move with respiration, the anatomy and neurology of the brain, flow of the CSF, the route and function of the cranial nerves, the tension membranes in the cranium and how they can produce various types of pain.

In this way, combining craniopathy with craniosacral techniques focuses on both the bones of the cranium and their “wrapper”.
Many issues that are not responding to spinal care alone are facilitated by the addition of cranial adjusting procedures.
